Greek Easter 2016 – Spetses

Being only 2 hrs by Flying Dolphin from Athens, the island of Spetses was an easy getaway. Usual Good Friday procession through the streets and the churches ringing long, mournful bell tolls. On Saturday midnight, all four churches on the island hold processions and they all meet in the square – everyone carrying lighted candles – and after midnight, the traditional «Magiritsa» officially broke the fast of no meat and lined stomachs before going crazy with meat on the Sunday. For those seeking a bit less tradition and bit more fun, the Kaiki Beach buzz (also known as ‘College Beach’ as it is situated opposite the Anargyrios College), under 30 degrees Celsius, was the perfect choice!
